Impact of ICT

Over the last few decades, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has seen magnificent developments. The result? The world is considered a global village, one that is constantly shrinking with new advancements that make us feel closer and closer to one another. Information can now be produced and disseminated in various formats across millions of miles and population at light speed… it is simply amazing. Man’s ancestors would be proud! However, with such power comes a weight of responsibility to stay true to the original intent of these developments: connection, knowledge sharing and rapid growth at marvellous speeds. We have both succeeded and failed in staying true to this original intent. In many ways, we have stayed true to that original intent. For example, in the global village, we know more about our neighbours than ever before and we have become so clever that we have in turn built clever machines and devices helping us to simplify complex tasks and excel in various vocations and aspects of life.

However, despite these developments and their positive influence in areas including psychology and neuroscience, for various reasons, our focus on technological advancement has overshadowed the opportunity to foster equal growth in our personal and collective consciousness. We have turned to manipulation, division, control, confusion, hatred, perversion, mockery, hypocrisy etc. and made them the decay that rots our brains making our machines smarter than we are and magnifying our demons. Indeed, before the developments referred to, these negative characteristics of man had existed. Still, without a doubt, these developments have amplified it.

EMBRACE CHANGE

Reinventing the wheel

With every negative word, picture, sound, video we plant a seed of negativity, so that it is reproduced somewhere else in someone else hurting other people. Negativity births negativity. One after the other fear is spread, anger is spread, hatred is spread, division is spread and on and on and on. The same thing that brings us together and helps us grow, kills us. This is where we come in! We believe, like William James said, the greatest discovery of the 18th century is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. In essence, as one thinks, so shall they be. We believe, what man thinks about is what man consumes as in information and if we can alter that information to make it positive, growth-inducing and transformative, we can in turn, make man’s life better. The current media landscape does not satisfy this ideology, and we’re here to do just that
