More GRAMMYS For TYE: Why “All Things New” is a Masterpiece.

Many say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yet, this same many like to address people as they are dressed. I think we might be a little bit confused. Coz, if beauty is judged by internal personal perception, how can appearances be generally categorised at the same time?

I guess what I’m struggling with is the fact that in our world today, as much as many claim to look below the surface and delete stereotypes, we still judge books by their covers. Or maybe we don’t know what beauty is anymore? I don’t know. Whatever the case, I think one intricate dimension of beauty is GROWTH, and it definitely cannot be judged by anyone looking at just the surface!

That said; this article is what I consider a closer look at an artiste’s creative journey, not the surface stuff. I must say however that it is only my personal opinion and I have had no direct communication with this person nor members of his team.

(Writing challenge accepted 😅)

Two-time Grammy Awards Winning American Gospel Artiste (say that 5 times 😅 I struggled too), Tye Tribbet released his Album – “All Things New” a while ago and I think it’s a masterpiece; I believe He deserves more Grammys.

If you could summarise this article into one sentence it’ll be,

“Perfection is overrated, only growth matters and it is not sudden, it is cumulative”.

Let’s go!

1. All Things New.

2. Get Up.

3. Be Alright.

4. Immanuel.

5. Walk by Faith.

6. We Need You Intro.

7. We Need You.

8. Anyhow Intro.

9. Anyhow (Hallelujah).

10. Holy God (Interlude).

11. Saviour.

12. Great is our God.

13. IDK.

14. So Good.

15. New.

16. Revive Us.

17. Anyhow Reprise.

That’s the list of tracks from the album. And after listening to each of them like a million times, especially track 17 (favourite 😁), I began to notice elements that have been unique to Tye over the years.

First, I should say that, personally, I thought those elements were kinda lost in his previous album – Greater Than, and some have said that is exactly why he won those Grammys because he worked his butt off and produced something different from what we were used to – something the academy considered grammy worthy… maybe!

Listening to All Things New though, I began to think Tye had found a way to stay true to his unique self (if you will) and still use elements from Greater Than that are considered “Grammy Worthy”. Plus, He brought back his brother Thaddeus on the bass and his buddy Spanky on the drums.

Take Track 1 for example – All Things New. I personally think that is= You are Everything (Greater Than Album) + Mighty Long Way (Life Album).

Track 9 – Anyhow (Hallelujah) is an improved Hallelujah Interlude from the one in Champions ft. Israel Houghton (Fresh Album).

Track 12 – Great is our God is= Better (Greater Than Album) + Bless The Lord/Son of Man (Stand Out Album).

He’s definitely come a long way from that first Nigerian praise medley from 2018 (I think) on Track 4 – Immanuel and Track 13 – IDK. I think he gave SMJ and Tim Godfrey a run for their money.

Track 17 – Anyhow Reprise definitely takes you back to when he did Alright ft Kim Burell (Victory Live Album) or He Has Made Me Glad ft Kim Burell (Stand Out Album).

Track 11 – Saviour takes you back to when he did another popular Nigerian song – Most High God ft Israel Houghton (Fresh Album).

Track 5 – Walk by Faith reminds you of when he did Eulogy ft Mali Music (Fresh Album) + It’s Time Now (Life Album).

Track 15 – New is definitely an improved Gospel Hip-Hop from Work It Out.

I could go on and on comparing and contrasting but I hope you catch my drift. This man has grown and I think he’s found a new version of His sound. I’m not in anyway trying to belittle those past works. I only used words like “improved or better” for lack of accurate words. I mean, I listened to most of them while writing this piece and they still hit hard. All I’m saying is, this man has grown, his music has grown, his creativity has grown.

Moral of the story? Perfection is overrated, only growth matters and it is not sudden, it is cumulative.

If you’re a creative (or not) and you’re thinking you want to reach a point where you can settle and say this is my voice, this is me, that’s how great I am… Think again! There are versions of your voice deep inside you that will always need finding, refining and expressing.
